My name is Holly Laginess, I attended The University of Minnesota. There I pursued a degree in Studio Arts with a concentration in ceramics. I went to the University for 2 years, but ended up graduating from a small school in Minnesota with a Culinary Arts Degree. I was a chef for several years but all the while I longed to use my education in studio arts. I began making jewelry and selling it. Before I new it I had my work in 15 stores across the Midwest and By Golly By Holly was created. I loved making jewelry and adorning people with fine metals and gems, but the market was becoming saturated with jewelers, and I knew I needed to begin to incorporate new items into my line or I was going to have to find myself a full time job! So I began to make lamps. I went out in search of vintage lamps I could take apart and use. This is my favorite part of the process, the thrill of the hunt! I build my lamps from the base up, from the parts of several lamps to make a floor lamp, a table lamp or chandelier. I add copper pipe, lamp work glass prisms and sometimes beautiful artist blown glass. In my new line I have recently reverted back to my past love, ceramics. I have been hand building ceramic components for my lamps and have expanded my line with dessert plates, tassels, boxes, 3-D Wall Tiles and garden art. Each ceramic piece I build myself, glaze it by hand and fire it. Hand building the vessels, glazing, drying and firing can take up to 3 weeks. After the parts are constructed I work towards their final assembly building them into functional art. I have no employees, besides my husband, who calls himself the pack muleā¦ I build the lamps from bottom up, they are all original, one of kind, creations. The shades are new or recycled; I wrap them in fine silks, feathers and beads. I hope to see you soon at one of my shows! Thanks for your interest!
